22nd Estonian Summer School on Computer and Systems Science

On-site in Tartu 18 – 21 August 2025

The Estonian Summer School in Computer and Systems Science is an annual international event for PhD and MSc students, postdocs, and faculty members. ESSCaSS promotes the interdisciplinary education of graduate students specialising in (but not limited to) computer science, systems science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, and bioinformatics. These schools play an essential role in doctoral education in Estonia.

Student sessions

There are "Student talks" and "Poster session" planned. The main aim of these activities is to get students actively involved in shaping the summer school. We hope these sessions allow them to improve their skills in presenting their topic, managing daily tasks more effectively, and sharing essential information.

Fees
The participation fee is 300 EUR per person for early bird and 500 EUR per person for late registration.

Fee includes:

  • all events and full catering related to the summer school
  • the lectures and school materials

PhD students and employees of the Institute of Computer Science, University of Tartu

  • The participation fee is covered by the university. FREE of charge.

Can be covered via the Estonian Doctoral School:

  • PhD students from other institutes of the University of Tartu - please consult your supervisor and, if needed, inquire about funding opportunities through the Estonian Doctoral School.

Must be covered independently or by you:

  • PhD students and participants from foreign universities - please check with your university, faculty, or supervisor for possible funding options.
  • If no funding is available, the participation fee must be paid personally.

Accommodation

Participants are expected to reserve and pay for their own accommodation in Tartu.

A preliminary reservation has been made at Hotel Dorpat https://dorpat.ee/et for 20 standard rooms (single occupancy). To book one of these rooms, please use the keyword ESSCASS when making your reservation. The room price is 67 EUR/per night (buffet breakfast included). The reserved rooms will be held until July 17, 2025.

Participants are responsible for booking and paying for their accommodation directly with the hotel. Payment can be made at the hotel or in advance via a prepayment invoice. If a prepayment invoice is needed, please inform the hotel when making your reservation.

MSc/BSc students interested in research are also welcome to participate in the summer school and may get registration support from their university. If in doubt, contact your university or supervisor for funding opportunities. University of Tartu students can contact [email protected].

Payments

Paying by invoice

If your registration fee will be covered by your institute, please mark in the registration form the option "My institute will pay. Please issue the invoice to my institute". The administration of the summer school will contact your institute regarding the payment. If you will pay by yourself, please mark the option “I pay myself. I will send you my details for the invoice by e-mail”.
