Professor of Cybersecurity

Duties and responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate research and teaching in  Cybersecurity and related areas. 
  • Develop and deliver a strategic research agenda aligned with national and EU priorities.
  • Secure national and international research funding and build a sustainable research group.
  • Build partnerships with industry, government, and international academic institutions.
  • Supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral students, and mentor early‑career researchers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and teaching excellence across relevant courses.
  • Disseminate research outcomes and raise awareness on cybersecurity research and its impact.
  • Participate in academic leadership and decision‑making within the Institute and University.

Required qualifications
PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.

Required experience
  • The candidate must meet the application requirements for a professor position described in Job Descriptions of Academic Staff  (Annexe 1, column “1. Application and promotion requirements”).
  • Exellent record of internationally recognised research in cybersecurity on high-level security conferences (NDSS, Usenix, S&P, ACM CCS).
  • Demonstrated success in attracting competitive research funding and leading projects.
  • Strong teaching and supervision experience at the bachelor, master and PhD levels.
  • Established industry and institutional collaborations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and contribution to the academic community.

Required language skills
Fluency in English required. Estonian is an advantage but not required. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.

Additional information on remuneration
Gross salary starting from €80,000 per annum, dependent on qualification and experience. Remuneration based on UT salary rules.

  3. A list of research publications (if necessary, enclosing copies or offprints of more important publications).
  4. If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position.
  5. A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
  6. Other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
