Cross-country skiing opportunity in Maarjavälja

A cross-country skiing trail with natural snow has been opened in Maarjavälja, the area between Viljandi road and the Physicum and Chemicum buildings of the University of Tartu. All skiers are welcome to use the trail for free.

Traditionally, when snow conditions allow, the City of Tartu prepares ski trails in Maarjavälja each year.

In the summer of 2025, the Maarjavälja green area was used to explore opportunities to enrich urban nature, with the aim of providing benefits for wildlife and a beautiful, healthy environment for people. During the summer, sheep grazed on the green area, and a biodiverse plant community was planted.
