Doctoral researchers are invited to three-minute thesis competition

The competition gives early-career researchers an opportunity to develop public speaking skills and to present their research in a way that even listeners unfamiliar with the field can understand. Within just three minutes, participants should provide an overview of the problem that inspired the research, the methods used to address it, and the preliminary findings.

Each presentation will be recorded on site, and participants will also be offered the opportunity to publish a popular-science article. The audience will also choose their favourite presentation.

Those who register early and want to hone their public speaking skills before the competition can take part in the elevator pitch workshop by Maret Ahonen on 14 October from 16–18. The number of places is limited.

The jury will assess the doctoral researchers’ ability to present their research in a clear and engaging way to a wider audience. The top three will receive a travel grant and the opportunity to represent the University of Tartu in follow-up competitions in Estonia and abroad.

The best Estonian presenters will represent the University of Tartu at the “Science in Three Minutes” national competition organised by the Estonian Academy of Sciences and the Estonian Doctoral School. In spring, the video recording of the best English presentation will be sent to the Coimbra Group 3-Minute-Thesis competition to represent the University of Tartu.
