Harmonia Universitatis concert series will continue this autumn

On 9 October at 18, Johann Sebastian Bach’s works will be performed at the Harmonia Universitatis concert in the University of Tartu assembly hall.

The concert series, which began in 2023 as a joint project of the University of Tartu and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT), has presented five concerts over two years.

On 9 October, violinists Arvo Leibur and Mia Kurvits, pianist Peep Lassmann, and the EAMT Sinfonietta directed by Arvo Leibur will perform. The programme includes Bach’s Concerto for two violins in D minor, Keyboard Concerto no. 1 in D minor, Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 in G major, and Keyboard Concerto no. 5 in F minor.

Arvo Leibur is a renowned violinist and Professor of Violin at EAMT, and long-time concertmaster of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Violinist Mia Kurvits studies at EAMT under Professor Leibur. She has performed as a soloist with the Eller Sinfonietta and the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra. Peep Lassmann, Professor of Piano at EAMT and an acclaimed pianist, has performed in more than 30 countries, taken the stage as a soloist with prestigious orchestras, and collaborated with renowned performers. Lassmann is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of composer Olivier Messiaen.

The concert is free for all school and university students. The tickets are sold on Piletikeskus or at the venue. Please note that students also need to download their free tickets from Piletikeskus. Anyone using a discount should be prepared to present a document proving the right to the discount.

At the concerts, the students and lecturers of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre take the audience on a journey of musical discovery, performing solo programmes and in various ensembles. The aim of the series is to offer memorable musical experiences to South Estonian audiences in the assembly hall of the University of Tartu.
