The university encourages the use of AI but urges users to do so responsibly and be guided by three core principles: critical thinking, transparency and ethics. The university’s position is outlined in its guidelines for using AI applications for teaching and studies. These include general principles, specific instructions, and an overview of what to consider when using AI in thesis writing, such as when and how to cite AI tools.
Support is also available through the learning material “Learning and teaching in the age of Artificial Intelligence: how to use text-based AI in education”, developed by the University of Tartu working group on chatbots. The material explains what AI is and how it works, introduces AI tools, shares tips for using them, and explores how AI can be used in teaching and studies from both the learner’s and lecturer’s perspectives.
