Representatives of Canadian universities visited Baltic higher education institutions

During the visit from 7 to 12 June, the Canadian delegation visited higher education institutions in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The aim was to strengthen ties between Canadian and Baltic universities and develop new opportunities for cooperation in education, research and innovation. The guests began their tour in Vilnius and finished it in Tartu on 12 June. The University of Tartu representatives introduced their activities and discussed mutual interests and potential areas of cooperation.

The 16-member delegation included representatives of ten Canadian higher education institutions: The British Columbia Institute of Technology, Brock University, Carleton University, Dalhousie University, Lakehead University, McMaster University, Saint Mary’s University, the University of Guelph, Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.

From the University of Tartu, Vice Rector for Development Tõnu Esko, Analysis and Development Manager of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Tarmo Puolokainen, Vice Head of the Institute of Computer Science Raul Vicente Zafra, Head of the Centre of Excellence for Personalised Medicine Professor Reedik Mägi, Acting Head of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies Maili Vilson, and CDL-Estonia Site Director Ermo Tikk. In addition, Director and Associate Professor Anti Tamm and Associate Professor in Space Technology Mihkel Pajusalu from Tartu Observatory; Professor in Molecular Technology Uko Maran and Professor of Archaeochemistry Ester Oras from the Institute of Chemistry; Associate Professor in General and Microbial Biochemistry Priit Jõers from the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology; Research Fellow in Materials Science Taivo Jõgiaas from the Institute of Physics, and Professor in Sociology of Risk and Resilience Kati Orru from the Institute of Social Studies, were present in the meeting.
