From the University of Tartu, 110 students and 205 staff members signed up for the step challenge that took place from 1 to 31 October. In total, UT participants logged 67,090,299 steps, which is about 50,318 km.
The 16 students from the Faculty of Science and Technology logged the most steps (a total of 10,401,447), with an average of 212,274 steps during the month. This result gives them the first place among all universities taking part in the “Sügissammud 2025” competition. All 16 students get a prize from the organiser of the campaign.
The largest number of students (42) signed up from the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Faculty of Medicine was represented by 30 and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities by 22 students.
The most active students were Karut Luur, Liisabet Urm and Maria Schotter from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Kati Kivi, Maarja Kiplok and Marie Emilie Nõmm from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Eliise Veltri, Lotta Eigo and Liis Lehesalu from the Faculty of Medicine, and Rainer Bõkov, Kaur Kullamäe and Jaan Vihalemm from the Faculty of Science and Technology.
UT staff logged more than 44 million steps in the challenge. The most active staff members were Piret Maiste, Kersti Kuusemäe and Maria Sarv from support units and institutions (incl. UT sports club), Maris Meus, Natalja Zagura and Erik Tõnn Rast from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Aet Kiisla, Liina Käärst and Kadri Orula from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Inga Villa, Vladimirs Pilipenko and Natalija Golubenko from the Faculty of Medicine, and Nele Taba, Ami Sild and Kertu Liis Krigul from the Faculty of Science and Technology.
In each category (staff of support units and institutions, staff and students of each faculty), three members of the university family who logged the most steps receive prizes.
In addition, three sets of prizes (headband of the sports club, tube scarf, 50-euro gift card of the UT gift shop) were raffled among participants. The winners are Huige Lin, Kerli Randmer and Piia Post.
All winners will be contacted by email. The prizes can be collected from Juhan Kari at the UT gift shop (Ülikooli 18–104) on working days from 12 to 16.
Across Estonia, participants of the campaign logged a total of 1,103,773,036 steps during October – equivalent to walking around Estonia 1,171 times.
