During the Peeter Tulviste memorial week held from 27 October to 2 November, a memorial conference takes place in the university assembly hall, and the exhibition “Bibliophile Peeter Tulviste” opens at the university library.

Peeter Tulviste was a brilliant lecturer and researcher, rector and politician, presidential candidate and member of the Riigikogu. As the first elected rector after the restoration of Estonia’s independence, he firmly set the university on a westward course. He challenged the prevailing academic mindsets and built an extensive network of international contacts, through which he helped place the University of Tartu – and Estonia – on the world map.

On 28 October at 17:15, the exhibition “Bibliophile Peeter Tulviste” opens at the University of Tartu Library, showcasing his passion for collecting books. Peeter Tulviste was one of the most diverse book collectors in Tartu and in Estonia. The Ilmamaa publishing house presents a collection of articles by Tulviste, Mõtelda ning mõista, released in the series Eesti mõttelugu. Read more about the event on the university website.

On 31 October, the memorial conference “Mõtlemist mõtestades” is held in the university assembly hall. At the conference, a remembrance book with articles by Tulviste’s contemporaries, published by the Estonian Students’ Society, will be presented. Read more about the event on the university website (in estonian).

During the conference, a sales stand will be set up in the lobby of the main building, where you can purchase the books and make donations to Professor Peeter Tulviste memorial fund.

The webpage Peeter Tulviste 80 presents a selection of recordings with Tulviste’s public lectures, speeches at ceremonies and various university events, from the university’s video archive.
