On 16 January, the Estonian Academic Sports Federation’s combined events tournament took place at the NET sports hall in Tartu. The University of Tartu was declared the overall winner of the competition, and the best student athletes and the universities most active in sport in 2025 were recognised.
At the traditional tournament marking the federation’s 34th anniversary, the participants competed in four events: beach volleyball, padel, beach tennis and badminton. Besides the University of Tartu, teams from the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University, Tartu Applied Health Sciences University, and the Estonian Aviation Academy participated, as well as the Estonian Police Sports Association and the Tallinn Department of Culture and Sports.
In beach tennis, the University of Tartu took first place. Our teams finished second in both padel and badminton, and third in beach volleyball. In the overall standings, the University of Tartu was crowned the tournament winner with 41 points across the four disciplines. The Sports Club of the Estonian University of Life Sciences was second, and Tallinn University was third.
Also, the most active universities in sport in 2025 were recognised based on the results of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation championships. The University of Tartu was second with 276 points, while Tallinn University of Technology took first place.
University of Tartu student, cross-country skier Keidy Kaasiku was named the best student athlete of 2025. She won first place in the 20 km event at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Turin.
The University of Tartu men’s eight was chosen as the best student sports team of 2025. The crew members were Karl August Ruusalepp, Markus Uibo, Karl Kristofer Orgse, Rasmus Tensing, Martin Rahuoja, Margus Kodasma, Mark Theodor Jalakas, Nikita Žoglo and Martin Siiman. The team won the gold medal in the 1000 m race at the EUSA European Universities Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
