Public lecture by Prof Alan Riley on European Union Energy policy

European College of University of Tartu invites you to a public lecture entitled “Europe's Energy Union: a new cover for old policies? Or a breakthrough for a change in relations with Russia?“ by Alan Riley, Professor in the City Law School at the City University London.

How the Energy Union will impact on the relations with Europe's largest supplier of hydrocarbons? What are the perspectives for Baltic States energy security? What is the future role for Gazprom in European energy portfolio? 

Recent crisis surrounding Ukraine castes a sharp light on the EU-Russia energy relations. In light of the new EU's initiative on the Energy Union Prof Alan Riley will highlight on the essence and perspectives of the emerging framework for the European energy policy. The public lecture will address legal specificity of the EU institutions role in energy regulation, infrastructure diversification projects and compatibility with the security of supply approach.

Professor Alan Riley's expertise in the unconventional gas revolution builds upon his specialisation in competition law, more specifically competition in European electricity and gas markets. He co-founded and chairs the European-wide Competition Law Scholars Forum and is co-editor of the Competition Law Review. He writes regularly on energy in Europe for the Wall Street Journal and he recently submitted a summary memorandum of his research to the Commons Select Committee for Energy and Climate Change.

The public lecture takes place in the framework of the Jean Monnet European Module on energy and climate policy.
