UniTartu Summer School Social Programme

While the academic course is broaden your knowledge and learning skills, the cultural programme offers a range of fun and engaging cultural activities, introducing you to Estonia and the opportunity to interact and network with other participants in a lively environment. Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a range of day trips and events offered through the programmes and their experience in Tartu! Please scroll down to see the information about the social programme events, fees, refund policy, etc. 

EVENTS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE FEE

There are social events included in the course fee. All of the participants can take part in these events without registering beforehand. See some of the possible events below. Please note that every year the events change a little bit. The exact event and location will be published two weeks before the summer courses start.

UniTartu Summer School Cultural Programme Board Game Night
International night
Description: Come and spend a fun evening with people from all around the world! We will play different games and get to know each other through various activities like speed friending, etc. Snacks, good music and wonderful people – the perfect start for a summer course!

UniTartu Summer School Cultural Programme Movie Night
Movie night
Description: Have you seen any Estonian movies before? Watching an Estonian movie is definitely a good way to get to know the culture a little bit better. Some popcorn and a great movie is all you need after a hard day of studying! Come and see for yourself!

Duration: approximately 2 hours
UniTartu Summer School Town Hall Square
City tour
Description: Tartu is a beautiful city and thankfully small enough to see all the important places in a short time. We will pass by University of Tartu buildings, historical bridges, Town Hall Square and much more. You will find the shortcuts to your lessons and get to enjoy the summer evening in the University City of Estonia.

Duration: Approximately 1-1,5 hours
UniTartu Summer School Cultural Programme Botanical Garden
Visit to Botanical garden
Description: Estonian nature is absolutely wonderful, especially in the summertime. Although Tartu is full of parks and trees, the best place to see the nature directly in the city centre is the Botanical Garden of University of Tartu. Grab some snacks, bring a friend and come to a picnic in the nature!

Duration: approximately 2 hours

Description: Tartu has many hidden treasures. Come and join us on a treasure hunt through Tartu city centre and see the wonderful places yourself. Be quick and collaborate with your team members to win a prize! On the way you'll learn new interesting things about Tartu!

UniTartu Summer School Cultural Programme Closing Reception
Closing reception
Description: After two weeks of hard studying, we will come together one last time to enjoy Estonian food and drinks as well as hand over the certificates proving your participation in the course. Come together with your course one last time and create long lasting memories of the summer school!

Duration: Approximately 2 hours
Tartu Ülikooli muuseum
UT Museums
Description: You will get a combined ticket to visit the University of Tartu Art Museum, the Old Observatory and the Museum of the University of Tartu in Toomemägi. With this ticket, you also get access to the ruins of an old dome church ruins, where you'll see the beautiful panorama of Tartu.

Time: you can visit anytime during your stay in Tartu during the opening hours of the museums

Please note that the following events are not included in the course fee. 
 

If you wish to participate in the events below, you must register and pay an extra fee. See the exact information down below. Please note that the cancellation and refund policy is the same as for applying for the courses. Please check the information below.

UniTartu Summer School Cultural Programme Trip to South Estonia Meenikunno Bog
Day trip to Estonian nature
Description: I bet you have never swum in a bog lake before or eaten freshly picked mushrooms in the middle of the forest! Join us on a trip to South Estonia to see the amazing unique nature of Estonia. We will get to at least three different trails or sightseeing places and have two meals. This trip is perfect for someone who enjoys hiking and is interested in seeing different landscapes!

Price: 100€ (incl. VAT 22%)
Duration: 10 hours

WHAT ELSE TO DO IN TARTU?

If you wish to take a look around Tartu yourself, we suggest visiting museums and events or just taking the smart bike and riding through the city. We have gathered some options which could be interesting for you. Please note that these events and places are not included in the social programme of the courses, therefore the prices are not included in the course fee. You will also need to check the dates and times yourself and book the tickets if needed.

Description: The biggest museum in Estonia will tell you all you need to know about Estonia and its people. With interactive tickets you can save the information you wish to read more at home. You will be guided through time to learn all about the history of the land and see how this little country has made a great name for itself in the world.

Description: During the first week of August there is an annual film festival late at night for a week. It is completely free for everyone – you just need to be there early to get the best seats! Enjoy award-winning movies in a warm summer night. Tip: you can also enjoy dinner while watching the move as the film will be shown in the town hall square with many restaurants!

Canoe Trip on Emajõgi
Canoe trips on Emajõgi
Scheduled trips are public canoe trips that everyone can join. The group is led by an experienced instructor. You will be provided with steady touring canoes with wide bottoms, which makes them hard to tip over. Most of the scheduled trips are feasible even for first-timers. It is recommended to come with a partner, but it’s also possible to join alone or with family or a group of friends.

AHHAA Science Centre
AHHAA Science Centre
Description: In the centre of Tartu there is a science centre with constantly changing exhibitions. In this centre, you do not need to just look at the exhibits; you can and even must touch them to experience everything in this science museum. You can test your strength, visit a planetarium and much more.

Tartu Adventure Park
Tartu adventure park
Description: If you are into adventures and like physical activities, the adventure park is the ideal place for you! Take some friends with you and go climbing after an exhausting day of studying. This is the perfect option to experience something different!

If you wish to participate in the trip to South Estonia you must register to the event at least by 10 July. 

  • After being accepted to the programme, every participant will receive a separate online form to inform the UniTartu Summer School team of their participation in the events. 
  • You will be asked to fill in the form even if you do not wish to participate in either of the events. 
  • After registration, you will be sent a separate invoice which must be paid by the date indicated on the invoice. 

Please note that some social events are not included in the course fee. In order to participate in the events, which are not provided in the tuition fee, you must choose to participate in the cultural part in a separate form sent to you after you have been accepted to the course. Within seven days of your form submission, you will get an invoice with the fee for the social programme. Please be informed that you are expected to fill in the form even if you do not wish to participate in the events; in that case, choose the option "will not participate in either of the events" in the form. Please note that VAT (20%) is included in the event fee. 

Payment information 

Terms of Cancellation and Refund

  • If you wish to cancel your participation in the day trip to South Estonia, you must inform the UniTartu Summer School team in writing via e-mail: isu@ut.ee

  • 90% of the event fee will be refunded if you cancel participation and apply for a refund at least 30 days before the start of the programme.

  • If you inform us of your cancellation less than 30 days before the start of the programme, no refund is made.

  • If the University of Tartu has to cancel the programme due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be informed of that before the event takes place. We will fully refund the event fee or offer a substitute programme. Please note that the events will only take place if at least 15 people participate. 

  • The university reserves the right to claim the event fee in accordance with the above-mentioned terms if you have received a Letter of Confirmation of Payment from the programme director and cancel the participation without  written notice.

NB! The same policy applies if you are forced to cancel because you did not receive a visa.
