Scholarships for UniTartu Summer School 2026

ENLIGHT is a European University formed by ten comprehensive, research-intensive universities from nine European countries (Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland), training over 300,000 learners per year and sharing a deep commitment to their social responsibility.

The University of Tartu offers 10 scholarships for students from ENLIGHT partner universities. Scholarships are available for the students (and teacher training lecturers) attending:

• University of the Basque Country
• University of Bordeaux
• Comenius University Bratislava
• National University of Ireland, Galway
• Ghent University
• University of Göttingen
• University of Groningen
• Uppsala University
• University of Bern
• University of Tartu

The scholarship covers the tuition fee for one course at the University of Tartu Summer University 2026. Accommodation and transportation costs are not included. The students are responsible for their travel to and in Estonia as well as housing costs.

Requirements for applying:

1. The student must fill in the scholarship application form and present all the documents necessary by the end of the application period
2. Motivational letter of a maximum of 1 page
3. Transcript of academic records (must include GPA)
4. The applicant must be a current degree student (BA, MA) at one of the ENLIGHT universities.
5. The student must be registered to UniTartu Summer School 2026 course before applying for the scholarship.

Please note that you can apply for more than one scholarship, but you cannot be awarded with more than one scholarship. That means, if you apply for the Estonian National Scholarship and/or ENLIGHT scholarship and for the full tuition scholarship, and you are informed that you have been awarded more than one scholarship, you must choose which scholarship you would like to participate in.

The purpose of the scholarship is to support foreign students' participation in short summer school courses of Estonian language and culture courses organised by the Estonian institutions of higher education, as well as in summer schools related to the degree programmes taught in English.

The scholarship can be awarded to the BA, MA and PhD students who are enrolled to the higher education institution abroad at least one year by the time of application. The candidate should pre-register to the course for applying for the scholarship.

Amount of scholarship

The scholarship includes a course fee of up to 700 EUR (one course per applicant) and the cost of accommodation of up to 25 EUR per night for a maximum period of 4 weeks. The board concludes a contract and makes the transfer directly to the university organising the course. The Estonian university organising the summer school offers accommodation or makes the scholarship payment to the student. The course fee is also paid to the university.

12. Estonian Summer Courses

Education and Youth Board shall pay the scholarship to the host university within 21 days from the conclusion of the respective contract. During the period of paying the scholarship, the grantee must stay in Estonia (except for attending online summer school courses).

The report about the use of the scholarship is submitted to the Education and Youth Board by the host institution. A free-form report about the activities and costs is submitted within one month after the end of the summer or winter school.

Short-term blended mobility for students under Erasmus+ Europe

NB! This does not apply to every course. Please contact your home university's International Office to find out if this applies to your university studies.

Erasmus+ mobility in higher education between Erasmus+ programme countries - students can participate in exchange studies or go for a traineeship in programme countries such as Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Netherlands, Croatia, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Latvia, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, France, Republic of North-Macedonia, Sweden, Romania, Germany, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary. In some cases it is possible to join UniTartu Summer School with the Erasmus+ funding. For more information please contact your study institution.

Erasmus+ blended mobility is a short-term physical mobility combined with a virtual activity:

• 5-30 days of physical (on-site) mobility carried out abroad (studies or traineeship);
• Preceded or followed by the virtual part of the mobility carried out remotely;
• must award a minimum of 3 ECTS credits;
• can be carried out for studies or traineeship.
