Administration of Uppsala University will visit UT

UT Rector’s Office, deans of faculties, vice deans and several heads of institutes will host the delegation of Uppsala University on 28 and 29 September. The aim of the meeting is to strengthen the relations between the two partner universities and meet the rector and administration of Uppsala University.

UT Vice Rector for Development Erik Puura said that we can think of Uppsala University as our 155 years older brother and, naturally, bigger brother because it has more than 41,000 enrolled students.

“It is in recent years that our bigger brother has taken more notice of us because we have quickly made our way upwards in rankings and in the framework of the idea to create a new international network of high quality research universities in Europe, Uppsala University, which is firmly among the top 100 on the world, has recommended UT in order to have a European-wide coverage,” said Puura.

According to Puura, it is only right that UT expresses gratitude to Uppsala University, especially for the opportunities which were created in Uppsala in the 1990s and even later to the academic staff who has by now returned to Tartu: “It is undeniable that the international experience of our academic staff has made our university stronger, improved the quality of research and studies.”

At the meeting, the universities will introduce their current work and plans in research and studies, this is followed by a discussion about planning cooperation possibilities. In addition, the universities will share their experience with administrative reforms, which have been quite similar; discuss how to measure the university’s impact on society and what are the key indicators of universities’ strength and performance.

Representatives of Uppsala University will also visit the UT Maarjamõisa research and technology campus, participate in the opening of the Estonian National Museum on 29 September and meet the Ambassador of Sweden Anders Ljunggren.

On 30 September they will be in Tallinn to meet the representatives of Tallinn University and Tallinn University of Technology.
