Duties and responsibilities
  • Teaching in the fields of political theory, comparative politics, and Baltic studies, with a particular emphasis on the history of Estonian and European political thought, as well as the historical and contemporary developments in the Baltic region (focusing on Estonia), at all levels of higher education. Advanced teaching skills and the use of appropriate technical tools are expected.
  • Supervision of students on the first and second level of higher education.
  • Advancement of teaching methods.
  • Educational administration and developmental activities.
  • Self-improvement, including improvement in teaching and mentoring skills.
  • Participation in the research and development activities of the academic unit, focusing on the history of 20th-century Estonian and Central and Eastern European political thought (more specifically: theories of democracy and authoritarianism, theories of nation-statehood), primarily under the guidance of a professor or associate professor.
  • Research outputs over five years equivalent to at least 2/3 of a doctoral dissertation (based on the workload of 1.0 FTE).
  • Further development of skills necessary for advancement in research, developmental and creative work, and general self-improvement.
  • Participation in the university’s decision-making bodies is desirable.
  • Popularization and promotion of the relevant academic field at the Estonian and international level; promotion of the university and the institute; participation in Estonian and international cooperative networks.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • Ability to teach the history of political thought, comparative politics, and Baltic studies at all levels of higher education, including the supervision of first and second level students of higher education.
  • Previous teaching experience in the history of political thought and Baltic studies in higher education; experience in supervising students and teaching in e-learning.
  • Familiarity with modern educational tools, learning environments, learning methods and interest in their further development.
  • International level professional research in the field of the history of political thought and Baltic studies comparable to at least one doctoral dissertation.
  • Experience in popularising one’s field of research both in Estonia and internationally.

Required language skills
Very good spoken and written command of Estonian and English.
