Purpose:
Climate change and the loss of biodiversity and natural habitats are currently the biggest environmental problems. This microdegree programme will provide knowledge about the environmental impact of global change and about conservation biology. The courses will discuss the impact of climate and land use change, invasive species, pollution and excessive resource use on the natural environment and thus to the human society. The participants will learn about designing protected areas, conservation of species in artificial environments, taking into account social and economical aspects. During the field courses, the participants will deepen their knowledge about species diversity and habitat requirements. The programme is meant for those who wish to be more aware about the impact of climate and land use change on the biodiversity (e.g. environmental educators, journalists) and/or people who take part in land use-related decision making (e.g. environment specialists, officials).
