Reet Kurg was re-elected as Director of the Institute of Technology

On 25 January, the council of the Institute of Technology elected the current director, Professor of Molecular Biomedicine Reet Kurg as the institute’s director for 2024–2026. Her new term of office starts on 1 February.

Over the next three years, Kurg aims to maintain the high international level of research at the Institute of Technology and continue collaboration with other research and development institutions and private companies. To ensure the sustainable and continuous development of the institute, it is necessary to enhance the breadth of research funding. Great emphasis is laid on teaching the new generation of researchers and engineers at all three study levels.

According to Professor Kurg, it is increasingly important for the institute to contribute to society through research and development. “Our strength in this is the interdisciplinary nature of our research, which leads to innovative solutions,” she said. Kurg also wants to improve the well-being of the institute staff. “The greatest value of the Institute of Technology is its people. Good relationships between employees, working together and supporting each other in both good and difficult times is essential,” said Kurg.

Reet Kurg has been at the head of the Institute of Technology since 2018. In 2021, she was elected Professor of Molecular Biomedicine.
