When studying at university, you may encounter situations where it is useful to know your rights. This page provides guidance on what you can do and who to contact to protect your rights.
Preventing academic fraud is essential to ensure an honest and fair learning experience. If you notice dishonest behaviour, the good practice is to report it to the university by contacting the academic fraud committee of your faculty or institute.
If you feel that a wrong or unfair study-related decision has been made concerning you, you may appeal the decision. You may also contest an entrance exam result by submitting a written appeal within three working days of the announcement of exam results to admissions@ut.ee. To appeal other admissions-related decisions or acts, you can submit an appeal within five working days of the announcement of the decision or performance of the act to the same email, admissions@ut.ee.
If you or another person is being bullied or discriminated against, you may contact an equal treatment support person. The support person will listen to you and explain what to do and who to contact if you suspect a breach of equal treatment. As a student, you may also contact the Student Union. The Student Union comprises student representatives from all institutes and faculties and provides students with first advice on how to act in the event of discrimination or bullying.
The university processes students’ personal data to perform its legal obligations. If you become aware of a breach related to processing your personal data, you may contact the specialist for data protection at andmekaitse@ut.ee.
Members of the University of Tartu Student Union represent students in all of the University of Tartu’s decision-making bodies that impact student life, studies and teaching. If you see a problem and have a solution to propose, please also contact your institute representative.
See also whom to contact if you have any questions.
If you do not want to use the contacts recommended for the problems, you can report the issue by email to the university’s breach reporting channel vihje@ut.ee. Messages sent via the reporting channel will reach the Internal Audit Office. By law, they must respond as soon as possible, at least within seven days. Reports sent to vihje@ut.ee are not anonymous.
