PROGRAMME: Medicine

Why did you choose to study this programme?

I started my career working as a junior radiographer in a private hospital in Hong Kong. The first two years of training consisted of general practice in diagnostic X-ray, computed tomography, and operational fluoroscopy. Two years later I started specialising in PET-CT. I would inject radiopharmaceuticals into patients before interpreting and annotating pathologies on the radiographs. As most were cancer patients, it presented an amazing opportunity for me to visually appreciate how destructive diseases can get.

The experiences compelled me to step up my career and continue to acquire the knowledge that could one day put me in a position to intervene in human pathologies. I am strongly convinced that the synergy between technology and healthcare means medicine can only go forward. I am eager to incorporate the knowledge and insight acquired as a previous radiographer into my future career as a doctor.

Upon completion of my medical degree, I aim to work towards becoming a surgeon through postgraduate specialist medical training.

Why Estonia?

Mesmerised by the rugged yet contemporary cinematic sceneries prevalent in the movie Tenet, my fascination towards Estonia grew further when I realised the movie took place in Linnahall, Kumu Art Museum and Laagna Road in Tallinn, respectively. The unique history of Estonia, spanning from Soviet Russification to its national independence, has been as intriguing as its technological transformation into a heavily digitised country where elections proceed online. Studying medicine at the National University of Estonia — a reputable and prestigious institution of high global standing — would offer me not only the opportunity to widen my multicultural exposure as I pursue intellectual and clinical excellence but also to equip myself with the technological acumen needed to succeed as a medical doctor.
