PROGRAMME: PhD in Computer Science

Why did you choose to study this programme?

My PhD specialisation is quite interdisciplinary, focusing on how emerging digital technologies, such as artificial or embodied intelligence used in Public Data Ecosystems, can be harnessed to promote inclusivity and sustainability. It is an interdisciplinary approach for which I sought an institute that could provide comprehensive support in terms of career development, capacity building, and financial resources. The Institute of Computer Science at UT is one of the very few that offers such support. Furthermore, the academic staff involved in public data ecosystems, as well as artificial intelligence and emerging digital technologies, are engaged in innovative projects at national, regional, and international levels, and I was eager to join the team responsible for these initiatives.

Why Estonia?

Estonia is regarded as a global leader in digital governance. Its development as a “digital nation” and “digital society” makes it an excellent choice for pursuing a career in the computer science sector, whether in industry or academia. As an enthusiast of international relations, the opportunity to participate in digital diplomacy projects is particularly appealing. Lastly, but by no means least, Estonia boasts a rich cultural heritage that remains largely undiscovered by many. Studying and working here presents a unique opportunity to immerse myself in this culture.
