University of Tartu professor received national order of France

French Ambassador to Estonia Michel Raineri awarded University of Tartu Professor of Estonian as a Foreign Language Birute Klaas-Lang the French National Order of Merit for promoting cultural and academic cooperation between France and Estonia.

Linguist and lecturer Birute Klaas-Lang received the highest class of the French National Order of Merit for her work in teaching the French language at the UT and developing cultural and research relations between the two countries. This is the highest French national award after the Legion of Honour which the French president awards for special services in various fields.

Recipients of the Order of Arts and Letters were theatre personas Vahur Keller and Priit Raud for their services in promoting Estonian-French relations in modern performance arts.

Eneken Laugen, translator and teacher of French, received the Order of Academic Palms for her love of the French language and introducing it in Estonia.
