Duties and responsibilities
Research, development and creative activities
- Participation in the research, development and creative activities under the supervision of a professor or associate professor, but the successful applicant will have substantial level of freedom and responsibility to conduct research into the development of polygenic risk scores that would a) address the problem of transferability issues of PRC across populations and b) be suitable for risk prediction for individuals with mixed ancestry.
- International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses in five years to fulfill the goals of the TeamPerMed project.
- Analysis and publication of research results for the TeamPerMed project.
- Development of skills necessary for research, development and creative activities, and professional development.
Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching
- Teaching, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, primarily supervising students of the first and second level of higher education within the TeamPerMed project.
- Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.
Participation in the governance and institutional development of the university
- Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies is recommended.
- Popularising their specialisation.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Required experience
The University of Tartu is looking for a highly motivated population genetics researcher to join their team. We expect the candidate to have:
- ability to participate in the research, development and creative activities of the specialisation.
- International-level research in the specialisation, the volume of which so far is equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis.
- Proficiency in statistical and population genetics methods and health data.
- Background knowledge in at least three of the following areas: human genomics, population genetics, bioinformatics, (genetic) epidemiology, risk scores.
- Previous experience working with genome data analysis methods.
- Published scientific work in peer-reviewed journals.
Required language skills
Very good command of English.

- Can communicate with his peers - be able to explain the outcome of his research and value thereof to the research community.
- Takes ownership for and manages own career progression, sets realistic and achievable career goals, identifies and develops ways to improve employability.
