Purpose:
The aim of the course is to continue developing the students' basic language: enhance vocabulary and knowledge of grammar, develop reading,
writing, listening and conversation skills.
Target group:
Foreign students
Outcome:
Upon completing the course the student:
1) is able to conjugate Estonian verbs in present tense and imperfect tense; knows how to form and use locatives; knows about 30 adjectives and how to compare adjectives;
2) is able to speak about themselves and their friends; describe different people, talk about plans and daily routine; tell what happened in the past;
3) has received information about Estonia, Estonian nature, culture, people and traditions.

Content:
Topic Credit Lectors
1. Vocabulary and conversation topics:
Let’s get acquainted.
Time, daily routine.
Activities, what are you doing today, what did you do yesterday.
What do you like to do, what you can do, what do you have to do.
Where are you, where are you going - different places and spaces.
Let’s describe people and things: adjectives and opposites, appearance and clothes.

Grammar:
Revision of interrogatives, personal pronouns, verbs, numbers.
Adjectives, opposites, nominative plural case.
Comparison of adjectives.
Present tense and imperfect (simple past tense), ma- and da-infinitive.
Local cases.

TOPIC 1
1.1. Vocabulary & conversation: Let’s get acquainted! How are you?
Where are you from? What languages do you speak? What do you like?
1.2. Grammar revision: interrogatives, making questions.

TOPIC 2
2.1. Vocabulary & conversation: What are you doing today? What do you like to do?
2.2. Grammar revision: verb conjugation, present tense, ma- and da- infinitive.

TOPIC 3
3.1. Vocabulary & conversation: Verbs. What did you do yesterday? What did you do last year?
3.2. Grammar: imperfect (simple past tense).

TOPIC 4
4.1. Vocabulary & conversation: Places. Where to? Where? Where from?
4.2. Grammar: Local cases, verbs ’minema’ and ’käima’, short illative.

TOPIC 5
5.1. Vocabulary & conversation: Let’s describe! How does it look like? Appearance and clothes.
5.2. Grammar: adjectives, opposites. Comparison of adjectives. Nominative plural case.

Tartu linn Lessons take place at Lossi 3-117.
Learning environment:
Studies and teaching takes place in appropriate classrooms, which have the required teaching equipment and meet the health and safety requirements.
Requirements to complete:
To pass the course, one needs to:
- participate in the course (at least 75% of the classes)
- pass the final test (at least 51% of the answers are correct)
Outcome method:
non-differentiated (pass, fail, not present)
Grading method:
The course ends with a non-graded test
Grading criteria:
At least 51% of the answers are correct
