Outcome:
After completing the course, the participant 1) will have a deeper understanding of the causes and consequences of global information disorders and will be better able to identify them; 2) will be able to relate global processes as a result of different countries, international organisations and events; 3) will be able to identify and analyse foreign information influence activities; 4) will be familiar with different strategies and measures for better orientation in the information world.
Starting conditions:
For the participation in the micro-credential programme, a higher education degree is expected.
Teachers:
The micro-credential programme will be taught by:
- Toomas Hendrik Ilves (1993-1996 Estonian Ambassador to Canada and Mexico, 1996-1998 and 1999-2020 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, 2004-2006 Member of the European Parliament and 2006-2016 President of the Republic of Estonia), Visiting Professor at the J. Skytte Institute of Political Studies, University of Tartu.
- Dr Sten Hansson (MA and PhD in Communication Studies, Lancaster University), Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Tartu. Dr Sten Hansson is an internationally renowned researcher of political communication. His research into government rhetoric, strategic narratives, and crisis communication has appeared in leading international academic journals. Sten also brings with him a decade of experience as a communication adviser at the Estonian Government Office.
Both lecturers have previous teaching experience on the named topics.

The micro-credential programme takes place 100% online.
Learning environment:
Studies and teaching takes place in appropriate classrooms, which have the required teaching equipment and meet the health and safety requirements.
Schedule and further information:
Planned timeframe for the micro-credential programme: 4 March 2025 - 24 April 2025.
Real-time seminars and lectures will take place 100% online. Lectures will also be recorded and can be watched afterwards. The learners are expected to participate in at least 5 lectures in both courses.
The micro-credential programme consists of two courses:
1) SVJS.00.104 Global Politics and World Order (Thursdays, 17.00-20.30 Eastern European Standard Time)
2) SVUH.00.291 Global Information Disorder and Foreign Influence (Tuesdays, 17.00-20.30 Eastern European Standard Time)
Requirements to complete:
According to the conditions for passing subjects.
In order to obtain a micro-credential program certificate, it is necessary to successfully complete subjects with a total volume of 12 ECTS. Upon completion of the program, it is possible to take into account the credits received when applying for the Master's degree programs of the Skytte Institute.
