University of Tartu Rector’s Cup Golf Tournament

Rector of the University of Tartu, Professor Toomas Asser, invites everyone interested in golf to the Rector’s Cup Golf Tournament, which takes place on 27 August at the internationally recognised Pärnu Bay Golf Links. This year’s tournament is the twelfth.

Initially the event was intended exclusively for University of Tartu staff, alumni and students, but since 2014, all those who enjoy golf and value the university are welcome to participate. “In addition to sporting fun and competitive excitement, the golf tournament also offers a little breathing space before the beginning of the new academic year,” said Rector Toomas Asser. “For many years, the golf tournament has been much more than just a sporting event. It is a place of colourful ideas, making new acquaintances and nice reunions,” he said. The rector added that it is an excellent opportunity to meet and keep in contact with our alumni and partners.

While the first tournament took place at Niitvälja and the following events at Otepää, this year, the golf lovers will gather for the second time in Pärnu county. “This year’s Rector’s Cup Tournament takes place again at the seaside near Pärnu, the summer capital, with a relaxing sauna, a delicious dinner with wine, exciting new acquaintances and happy reunions,” said Karolin Ossip, Marketing Specialist at the University of Tartu. She says the internationally renowned seaside golf course not only offers the joy of the game but also stands out for its beautiful scenery. The tournament aims to bring together, for a day full of competition and fun, the alumni, students and partners of the University of Tartu and people interested in the university and golf.

This year, 110 players will compete in the tournament. To participate, register for the Rector’s Cup Golf Tournament 2022 in the Golfbox environment or by email to karolin.ossip@ut.ee.

Pärnu Bay Golf Links is located in a seaside area, about a 10-minute drive from the centre of Pärnu. The alternating terrain of the links-type golf course offers excitement for beginners and experienced players alike. Pärnu Bay Golf Links has been awarded numerous titles for its unique courses and beautiful surroundings. In 2020, the online golf reservation service Golfscape named Pärnu Bay one of the top 100 golf courses in the world, and the golf course rating platform Top 100 Golf Courses ranked it as one of the top 100 courses in continental Europe. The National Club Golfer, a UK-based golf magazine, ranked Pärnu County as the 16th among the 100 best courses in continental Europe in 2020. The prestigious World Golf Awards programme named Pärnu Bay Golf Links the best golf course in Estonia in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three players in each competition class, the winning team in the faculties’ competition and the winners of special competitions. There are also additional prizes. As the grand prize, the University of Tartu offers the winner an opportunity to join a micro-credential programme at the university. Sponsors of the event include GolfLife Shop, LUMI, Terminal Oil, Fast and many others.
