BIOGEOMON symposium brings together the world’s top researchers in the natural sciences

On June 27-30th the University of Tartu is hosting the 10th BIOGEOMON, a symposium focusing on the biogeochemistry of the world's various ecosystems as influenced by anthropogenic and environmental factors. At the conference, the world’s top scientists will present the results of the material flows and their key processes and models that give the latest overview of the cycle of chemical elements.

“Environmental change is currently the fastest and most topical in human history,” says Jaan Pärn, associate professor at the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences of the University of Tartu. “BIOGEOMON and natural scientists gathering in Tartu have been keeping an eye on the health of the earth’s ecosystems for decades. As the 10th BIOGEOMON takes place right here, researchers from Tartu and all over Estonia have a great opportunity to create new collaboration opportunities and update old ones.”

The first symposium on the functioning of ecosystems took place in Prague in 1987. Five years later, the conference got its name, as the topics ranged from ecosystems to experiments, biogeochemical mechanisms, and ecological modeling.
