In October, the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Annette Klein and the new ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Kristīne Našeniece visited the University of Tartu. Rector Toomas Asser hosted Klein on 7 October and Našeniece on 14 October.
The University of Tartu has partnered with major German universities for decades. This has promoted the highest level of academic cooperation and researcher exchange, which continues to benefit the development of research and education in Estonia. Within the Erasmus programme, the University of Tartu has a total of 165 agreements with 75 German higher education institutions in 2022. Currently, 109 German citizens study at the University of Tartu.
The University of Tartu also has 28 student and staff exchange cooperation agreements with eight Latvian higher education institutions within the Erasmus programme. The closest cooperation is with the University of Latvia. Currently, 62 Latvian citizens study at the University of Tartu.
During the visits, discussions were held on how cooperation can be promoted in the future.
