On 23 August, University of Tartu Professor of Macroeconomics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Raul Eamets submitted an application to Rector Toomas Asser to resign from the dean's position. The rector accepted the application on the same day, dismissed Eamets from the dean's position and appointed Professor Janno Lahe, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Social Sciences, as acting dean.

On 14 August, Rector of the University of Tartu Professor Toomas Asser decided to terminate the employment relationship with the Dean of the UT Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor of Macroeconomics Raul Eamets. Eamets' last day of work at the University of Tartu will be 12 November, and until then, he would also have held the dean's position.

At the university, an academic staff member elected as dean may be relieved of the dean's duties if the person resigns or if the faculty council expresses no confidence in the dean. On 14 August, Rector Toomas Asser made a motion to the council of the Faculty of Social Sciences to express no confidence in Dean Raul Eamets to dismiss him from the position of dean before the end of his employment contract as professor. The vote was planned to take place from 28 to 29 August. As Professor Eamets resigned from the dean's position today, the council of the Faculty of Social Sciences will not discuss the vote of no confidence.

Professor Janno Lahe will be the acting dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences until a new dean takes office. The regular elections of the deans take place on 3 October, and their new term of office starts on 1 January 2024.
