University of Tartu alumni survey: expectations and willingness to collaborate

From 17 to 30 September, University of Tartu alumni are invited to take part in a survey aimed at understanding alumni expectations, needs and their sense of connection to the university.

According to Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Aune Valk, University of Tartu alumni play a prominent role in the university’s identity, so it is important to take their expectations and feedback into account. By gathering alumni perspectives, the university aims to make its cooperation with graduates more responsive to their needs and to foster a closer relationship with the alumni community.

Who can participate?

The survey is open to all who have completed bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral studies at the University of Tartu. Graduates of micro-degree and continuing education programmes are not included.

How can I participate?

Survey invitations will be sent by email to alumni whose current email addresses are available to the University of Tartu and who have consented to receive such information. Through the university’s communication channels, alumni who do not receive a personal invitation will also be encouraged to participate. Completing the survey takes approximately 15 minutes.

What does the survey involve?

Participation in the survey is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will not be linked to individual participants, respondents’ IP addresses will not be collected, and email addresses will be used solely to send survey invitations. Results will be reported only in aggregated form.

The survey consists of two parts: a quantitative part (questionnaire) and a qualitative part (focus group interviews). The questionnaire will be open for four weeks, from 17 to 30 September. Focus group interviews will take place in October. Participants interested in taking part in a focus group can indicate their interest when completing the questionnaire.

The survey is conducted by Emor on behalf of the University of Tartu, and the company will also analyse the collected responses.

When will the results be available?

The results of the survey will be presented at the end of the year. The findings will be used in planning the University of Tartu’s future alumni engagement activities.

An alumni survey was also conducted in the spring. How do the two surveys differ?

This spring, the University of Tartu Office of Academic Affairs conducted an alumni survey focusing primarily on the content of studies and graduates’ situation in the labour market. That survey was directed at alumni who had graduated in specific years. The current survey seeks to gain a better understanding of what alumni expect from the university and how they would like to remain connected with it after graduation.

The survey forms part of the university’s alumni relations strategy for 2025-2035.

I received the survey invitation, but some of my fellow alumni did not. Based on what are the survey invitations sent?
