Duties and responsibilities
  • Research, development and creative activities (RDC) in the field of early modern intellectual history. International-level research (during 5 years at least 6 publications - at the workload of 1,0). Securing necessary funds for research, initiating and leading research projects. Participation in the development and organisation of terminology of the specialisation.
  • Teaching courses on early modern intellectual history, university history and history of science at all levels of higher education using contemporary methodological and educational technology approaches. Supervising students at all levels of higher education in early modern intellectual history, particularly in the areas of university and science history. Activities related to the administration and development of teaching, incl. teaching development.
  • Promoting the field outside academia and participating in activities related to the advancement of early modern intellectual history, university history, and history of science at the national or international level.
  • Development of skills in above-mentioned areas.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification qualification in philosophy, theology, or another related field.

Required experience

Teaching

  • The candidate must be able to organise teaching and teach early modern intellectual history at all levels of higher education and have knowledge of modern teaching methods and learning environments.
  • Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education is required, incl. effective supervision of master’s or doctoral students.
  • Experience in compiling teaching aids and materials for institutions of higher education.

RDC activities

  • The candidate must be able to direct a research theme in the field of early modern intellectual history and supervise academic staff within the research theme.
  • Demonstrated research experience in early modern intellectual history. International-level research, the volume of which is equivalent to at least two doctoral theses (and equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis within the last five years).
  • Success in applying for research funding and accomplishing research grants in the past five years.
  • International experience (acquiring a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification, completion of postdoctoral fellowship, completion of professional continuing education, leading a large-scale collaboration project in a foreign country or active professional work in an academic institution, influential enterprise or international organisation in a foreign country.)
  • Participation in the work of the international community of the specialisation and experience in popularisation.

  • Experience in team or project management.

Social and public activities

  • Participation in activities related to the promotion and application of the specialisation on an institutional, national or international level.

Required language skills
Advanced proficiency in Estonian, both spoken and written. Excellent command of English for professional communication and research purposes. Additionally, knowledge of early modern scientific languages (Latin, German) is required.

  5. A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
  6. Other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
