Student satellite ESTCube-2 aims to test plasma brake technology
On 4 January, the new model of the student satellite ESTCube-2 was presented at Tartu Observatory of the University of Tartu. The main goal of ESTCube-2 is to test plasma brake technology. On 14 June, in Czechia, the satellite will be handed over to the international team preparing a space mission, and it will be launched in the second half of the year.

University of Tartu researchers: among care organisations, day centres were hit the hardest by corona crisis
The crisis sociology research group of the University of Tartu Institute of Social Studies and European researchers studied how the care organisations of nine European countries coped during the coronavirus crisis, showing their resilience in providing support to people who had fallen into economic difficulties during the crisis or were already in a vulnerable situation.

Study gives an overview of the prevalence of coronavirus by 25 January
This year’s first stage of the study on the prevalence of coronavirus in Estonia led by the University of Tartu starts today. The study stage is conducted until 24 January and assesses the prevalence of the coronavirus and its antibodies in the adult population. Among other things, it will give a more precise overview of the prevalence of the Omicron strain.

Academy of Sciences elected new research professors
The board of the Estonian Academy of Sciences has elected three new academy research professors for 2022–2024 from the 16 researchers who participated in the competition.
