Purpose:
The aim of the micro-degree is to provide diverse and practical knowledge of the development, politics, and international trends of the modern global economy and how to govern them, especially from the perspective of a small country. The micro-degree is suitable for employees of the public sector and international organizations, but also for all those who have an interest in the functioning of global issues, including international organizations (EU, NATO, OECD, World Bank, etc.). During the lectures, it is possible to meet several Estonian experts who have worked or are currently working in these organizations. The micro-degree also provides knowledge of contemporary regional development theories and policies at the meta-regional level, as well as the variety of capitalism in developed countries and the relationship between economic development and the cultural context. Participants will also learn about the opportunities for fiscal and monetary policy to influence the economy, how government revenues and expenditures are shaped, and how tax competition between countries is expressed. A micro-degree graduate can see the links between the tax system, economic growth, and income inequality. Graduates can continue their studies in the master's program of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, as this micro-degree is part of the 1-year master's program "Entrepreneurship in Economic Policy-Making".
