Five international doctoral students from the University of Tartu to participate in the English-edition gala of the Estonian Academy of Sciences' competition “Science in 3 minutes”

On Friday, 18 October, starting at 18:00, the final gala of the Estonian Academy of Sciences' English-language competition “Science in 3 minutes” will take place, where 19 international doctoral students from Estonian universities will introduce their research in a three-minute presentation. At the end of the gala the best five presenters will be chosen and awarded.

The University of Tartu will be represented by Elchin Aghazada from the School of Economics and Business Administration, Francis Gracy Arockiaraj from the Institute of Physics, Baiba Brumele from the Institute of Technology, Isaac Okiti from the Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, and Kateryna Pantiukh from the Institute of Genomics. Among the topics presented by the doctoral students are corporate innovation capacity, computer vision, cancer research, wetland restoration and gut bacteria diversity.

While the Estonian-language three-minute thesis competition has already been held eight times since 2015, the English-language competition is being hosted for the first time this year. The finalists have to summarise their years of research in three minutes in a way that is interesting and understandable to all listeners, regardless of their background and prior knowledge.

Doctoral students participating in the competition represent the University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Estonian Business School, Estonian Academy of Arts and Estonian University of Life Sciences. The finalists come from different parts of the world: Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brazil, Guatemala, Georgia, Ireland, India, Iran, Italy, Latvia, Nigeria, Finland, Turkey and Ukraine.
