Footprints of two staff members of the University of Tartu added to Tartu Pioneers' Alley

The bronze footprints of Hele Everaus, Professor emerita of the University of Tartu Faculty of Medicine, and Krista Aru, Director of the University of Tartu Library, have been added to the Tartu Pioneers' Alley next to the Tasku Centre.

Each year, two new footprints are added. This year, the jury of the Pioneer's Alley selected one Pioneer from 31 candidates and put four candidates to a public vote. The jury's choice was Hele Everaus, Professor emerita of the University of Tartu Faculty of Medicine. Candidates in the public vote were Director of the University of Tartu Library, historian on journalism and museologist Krista Aru, Ballet Director of Vanemuine Theatre Mare Tommingas, CEO of Science Centre Ahhaa Andres Juur, and chair of the board of Salvest AS Veljo Ipits. More than 4,400 people took part in the public vote, choosing Krista Aru as the winner.

The Tartu Pioneers' Alley, established in 2010, aims to recognise people who have accomplished an outstanding deed or made a significant contribution to the development of the city or county of Tartu. The next footprints will be added to the alley in autumn 2024.
