On 20 February at 12, university staff and students are invited to the ceremony and concert dedicated to the 108th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the university’s assembly hall.
This year’s lifetime achievement award is granted to Martin Zobel. The annual awards for research completed and published over the last four years go to 16 researchers from the University of Tartu.
Ahead of this year’s Independence Day, President Alar Karis bestows Estonian state decorations on 203 people, 16 of whom are members of the university family.
On 23 January, the University of Tartu Foundation recognised the scholarship recipients of the autumn semester of 2025 and thanked the foundation’s donors in the White Hall of the University of Tartu Museum. Scholarships were awarded from 33 funds in a total amount exceeding €200,000.
The university network ENLIGHT’s annual Teaching and Learning Conference will take place at the University of Bern from 22 to 24 October 2026. Proposals for presentations can be submitted until 31 March.
During the Faculty of Social Sciences Winter Days, the recipients of the Outstanding Societal Contribution Award and the Act of the Year were announced.
At the conference “Teaching for learning 2026”, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Aune Valk presented the teaching awards and the teaching quality award of 2025.

At the General Assembly of the Estonian Academy of Sciences on 3 December, Prime Minister Kristen Michal awarded the Karl Schlossmann Medal to Rector Toomas Asser.
