At the Startup Day business festival held in Tartu from 28 to 30 January, the university’s researchers showcased latest achievements in their research and development work and held discussions about them.

Although creativity has often been associated primarily with the fine arts, no field of life can do without it, least of all entrepreneurship and research.

At the end of November, the University of Tartu and the Commercial Association of Estonian Dairy Producers (EPIKO) signed a cooperation agreement to take research-based solutions and cutting-edge technology into everyday agriculture.

From 28 to 30 January 2026, the 10th international business festival Startup Day takes place at the Estonian National Museum in Tartu. The University of Tartu will be present with a diverse and engaging programme.

Vibe coding enables creating websites and apps without writing code, using AI. A hands-on workshop shows how an idea quickly becomes a working digital solution.

Researchers at the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science, Junior Research Fellow of Artificial Intelligence Joonas Ariva and Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence Dmytro Fishman, together with radiologists from Tartu University Hospital and engineers at Better Medicine, have developed an AI-based tool that accelerates the detection of kidney cancer. Its effectiveness was validated in a study published in Nature Communications Medicine.

At the Estonian Best Enterprises Awards Gala on 1 November, the innovation centre Kobar – established by the Pärnumaa Development Centre and the University of Tartu Pärnu College – was presented with the Entrepreneurship Promotion Award.

On 11 November, the European Institute of Technology and Innovation (EIT) selected the consortium to lead a new Knowledge and Innovation Community in the field of water, marine and maritime sectors and ecosystems (EIT Water). Among the founding partners is the Estonian Marine Institute of the University of Tartu.

On 17 September, the University of Tartu signed a cooperation agreement with Gelatex Technologies OÜ, a technology company operating in the field of materials science. The partnership focuses on research and development, knowledge transfer, and traineeship and study opportunities for students.
