On 25–26 March, the cyber defence exercise “Locked Shields 2026 Partners’ Run” took place, where a joint team of the University of Tartu and the Estonian Defence League’s Cyber Defence Unit achieved first place for the second consecutive year.
From 27 to 28 March 2026, the University of Tartu hosted the ENLIGHT student conference, bringing together nearly 100 participants from the network’s ten partner universities. Through workshops, lectures and discussions, students explored how digitalisation and artificial intelligence are shaping European universities.
The European university network ENLIGHT invites the University of Tartu staff members to submit joint projects to foster educational cooperation within the network. The application deadline is 15 May 2026. This is the final round of the ENLIGHT Incubator calls, with a total of 226,000 euros in funding.
On 6 March, the University of Tartu hosted representatives of the councils of three Ukrainian higher education institutions. The purpose was to give the guests an overview of the functioning of the Estonian higher education system, the governance of universities, and the labour policies in Estonia.
Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates Amna Mahmoud Fikri visited the university at the end of February, and Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Boyechko and Ambassador of Germany Jan Scheer at the beginning of March.

A cross-country skiing trail with natural snow has been opened in Maarjavälja, the area between Viljandi road and the Physicum and Chemicum buildings of the University of Tartu. All skiers are welcome to use the trail for free.
On 20 January, representatives of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance of Ukraine visited the University of Tartu to discuss the Ukrainian universities’ experiences of teaching and research under crisis conditions.
