On December 4, the General Assembly of the Estonian Academy of Sciences elected 4 new academicians from 16 candidates. Two of the elected academicians belong to the University of Tartu.
Jaan Aarik, the Professor of solid state technology at the University of Tartu, was elected to be the academician in exact sciences. Lauri Mälksoo, the Professor of international law at the University of Tartu received the title of an academician in law.
According to the statutes of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, the elected members of academy shall be scientists of Estonian citizenship who have outstanding achievements in research and development work and who have substantially developed science in their domain of research.
