Nominate candidates for honorary decorations until 20 September

All university members are invited to nominate candidates who deserve to be awarded the university’s honorary decoration for their outstanding achievements. Nominations can be submitted via the web form until 20 September.

The proposals for recognition can be submitted throughout the year, but honorary decorations are awarded once a year, just before the anniversary of Estonia’s national university.

When you submit the proposal, please enter the candidate’s name on the university’s website and briefly describe why the person should receive the decoration. The senate decides the awarding of the Grand Medal at its October meeting. The rector decides the awarding of the Medal, the Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” immediately after the same meeting of the senate.

The university awards honorary decorations to recognise its members and significant individuals outside the university according to the Regulations for giving recognition in force since 2020. The honorary decorations of the University of Tartu are the Johan Skytte Medal, the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, the University of Tartu Grand Medal, the University of Tartu Medal, the University of Tartu Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu”.

  • All recipients of recognition awards can be found in the recognition database.
  • Recipients of honorary decorations will be announced on 25 October 2024.
  • Presentation of the honorary decorations will take place on 21 November 2024 at 16:00 in the assembly hall of the main building. The entire university family is welcome to attend!
