Rector Toomas Asser: I unequivocally denounce any action that could endanger the security of our country

Dear members of the university family,

This is to inform you that the Estonian Internal Security Service suspects Viacheslav Morozov of action against the Republic of Estonia. The employment relationship with him has terminated.

I unequivocally denounce any action that could endanger the security of our country. It is even more deplorable that a person who is now suspected of undermining the security of our state worked for years at the university – an academic community whose moral responsibility it is to stand up for peace and academic and democratic values.

It is impossible to measure the full extent of the potential damage, but it is absolutely clear that it affects the state, the university, people’s spirit at work and interpersonal relations.

I urge us not to underestimate hostile countries’ ability and intent to lead and carry out anti-democratic actions. We must maintain awareness of the situation and critical thinking and cooperate fully with our security agencies.
