University of Tartu Seventh Pillar Fund was founded by the University of Tartu and the University of Tartu Foundation in 1998 to support students in their studies and research. When the fund was established, it was named by the then patron of the foundation Lennart Meri, who referred to the seventh pillar as the pillar of wisdom.
The scholarship of the Seventh Pillar Fund is intended primarily for students who graduated from upper secondary schools outside of Tartu and Tallinn, who excel in their studies, participate in research projects and do research. The scholarship is also awarded based on the candidate’s involvement in civic initiatives, participation in student and other organisations and experience in organising international events.
The grant from the fund enables recipients to participate in specialised conferences, be active volunteers and devote time to writing their thesis.
Dear alumni, do good by supporting talented students! Your contribution boosts the scholarships and promotes world-class research. You can donate on the University of Tartu Foundation’s website as a one-off grant or a standing order. In Estonia donations are taken into account in your next year's tax return.
