The Estonian Research Council (ETAG) invites students to participate in the 2026 National Contest for University Students. The last day for submissions is 15 September. This year, the total prize fund exceeds €200,000.

From 1 to 23 September, University of Tartu students and alumni, including staff members, can apply for the mentoring programme, which is held for the tenth time this year. Applications can be submitted on the university website.

Konsta Rauhala studied a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) at the University of Tartu. Now working in procurement in Finland, Konsta describes his time in Tartu as the best three years of his life.

On 18–19 March, the University of Tartu’s alumni relations team participated in the CASE Nordic Summit on alumni engagement and fundraising at Nordic and European universities. The international event showcases best practices in alumni involvement, community development and the cultivation of a culture of giving.

This year’s mentoring programme ended on 19 February, with more than 150 mentoring pairs taking part. The participants included alumni, students and staff members.

On 6 February, the Rector of the University of Tartu Toomas Asser, together with the university mascot Tiksu, welcomed Karl Jürgenstein, Kait Kaarel Puss, Arnold Rein Tatunts and Andres Käosaar in the university’s main building after their successful row across the Atlantic.

On 13 December, the team Rowtalia, consisting mainly of University of Tartu alumni – Karl Jürgenstein, Kait Kaarel Puss, Arnold Rein Tatunts and Andres Käosaar – set off to compete in the ocean rowing race World’s Toughest Row Atlantic 2025.

Last year, Elmo decided to challenge himself by joining the University of Tartu mentoring programme. His mentee was Grete Sakteos, a bachelor’s student in astrophysics.

On 6 August, Rector Toomas Asser signed the University of Tartu alumni relations strategy for 2025–2035. We spoke with Head of Alumni Relations Kaisa Hansson about the role alumni play at the university and how she envisions the future of collaboration with them.
