Invitation to take part in the Pride march

On 6 June, the university will, for the first time, take part in the Baltic Pride 2026 March in Tallinn. We invite all students and staff to join.

This year’s main message of the Baltic Pride, “Silence won’t defeat hate”, is related to creating a safe and respectful environment. In its strategic plan, the university has also set the goal of being an internationally competitive and societally impactful academic community that values a human-centred approach, a safe learning and working environment, and openness. “Taking part in the Pride march is an opportunity to openly stand in support of diversity and equal treatment, and create an environment in which every member of the university community feels valued and supported. Such steps are precisely what strengthen the university’s role as a bearer of societal values and help shape an academic network where diversity is natural and enriching,” said Eveliis Padar, Equality Officer at the University of Tartu.

Participation in the event is voluntary. Welcome are both those who wish to walk in the march and those who prefer to express their support in other ways. To provide the organisers with as accurate a participant number as possible, those joining the university group are asked to complete the registration form on 3 June at the latest. Please note that the university will not arrange transport for the participants or reimburse their travel expenses.

The march will begin on 6 June at the Viru Gates in Tallinn and end with an open-air concert at Telliskivi Creative City. The exact meeting point is sent to registered participants once the organisers have the final procession layout.

Those who wish may wear clothing with university symbols.
