Oecologicum’s balcony collapsed, no one injured

On Sunday, 12 January, a balcony fell off the wall of the Oecologicum (J. Liivi 2) academic building. The balconies of this building are not meant for people to move on but for decoration. No one was hurt.

The incident was immediately reported to employees of the Estates Office, who checked that the site was safe for passers-by. Experts from Tartu Ehitus, the construction company that renovated the building, will also inspect the load-bearing structures of the other balconies. The cause of the balcony collapse will be clarified during expert analysis.

If you notice anything dangerous about university buildings, please inform the building manager or, in their absence, the building superintendent. The contact details of the superintendents of university buildings can be found in the list of employees of the Facility Management Service of the Estates Office on the university’s website
