Night of Museums in UT museums

At the Estonian Night of Museums “Waves in the Night” on 14 May, UT Museum, Art Museum, Old Observatory, Botanical Garden and Natural History Museum will also open their doors to visitors. Visitors can see permanent exhibitions and there is also an exciting special programme.

At the Night of Museums at UT Museum waves of nearly all wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum are present, because UT Museum, Art Museum and Old Observatory focus on some part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

There is a joint orientation game of all three museums, where participants can put together a fun electromagnetic spectrum bookmark in various workshops.

UT Museum is open from 18 to 23

In the main building of the UT Museum, the cathedral, it is possible to learn about x-ray and microwaves. The museum and towers are open for visitors from 18 to 23

UT Art Museum is open from 18 to 22 at Museum Night

In the night shadows, a legend of sea serpents and priest Laocoön comes alive. You can see a picture programme of seascape engravings which were done on journeys of measuring the world. From the arctic to tropical islands and you can visit the seascape paintings room, where you can paint and draw your impression of the sea on paper.

Tartu Old Observatory is open from 18 to 24

In the Tartu Old Observatory you can learn about infrared and ultraviolet radiation and radio waves. The programme also studies how holograms are created. During two excursions, you hear how the world has been measured in Tartu at the new temporary exhibition “Measuring the World: From Tartu to the End of the Universe”.

UT Botanical Garden is open on Saturday from 18 to 23

At 18, soundwaves are produced by Allikabänd, who perform folk and traditional music, and at 19 is an excursion which introduces the world of plants.

UT Natural History Museum is open from 18 to 23

Exhibition “Our Sea” makes waves and introduces the plants and animals of the Baltic Sea, their relations and the human impact on the wellbeing of our home sea. In addition, visitors can follow the Asterolepis ornata, an antiarch fish, to a time millions of years ago, marvel at shiny minerals, wander around communities from the tundra to the rain forest and have a look at the animals in the life corner.
