Latvian and Estonian heads of state visited the University of Tartu

Latvian President Egils Levits paid a working visit to Estonia on Friday and had a meeting with President Alar Karis. In the afternoon, the two presidents visited the University of Tartu, where they were welcomed by Rector Toomas Asser, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Aune Valk, and Vice Rector for Research Kristjan Vassil.

The President of Estonia was pleased that the official visit also included a visit to the University of Tartu. “We all currently need the knowledge and skills of our researchers and doctors to be able to cope with the ongoing pandemic. We are all in the same situation and have to get out of it together: by vaccinating, wearing masks and limiting our contacts,” said President Karis, who was the Rector of the University of Tartu from 2007 to 2012.

The heads of state hosted a joint press conference in English in the assembly hall of the main building of the university. After the press conference, they went to the Estonian National Museum.
