University of Tartu to organise Winter School course on equity and equality

The University of Tartu invites all Master’s and doctoral students to participate in virtual Winter School course Equity and Equality in Education and Medicine, taking place from 15-19 November 2021. Registration is open until 31 October and participation is free of charge for all.

The virtual Winter School course focuses on opportunities and difficulties in ensuring equity and equality in contemporary Europe. The structure of the course follows the notion that in order to understand a complicated system, e.g. climate, you need to study the system from several perspectives. “Equal treatment and opportunities is discussed above all in the context of the wellbeing of minority groups and justice, but equal and fair treatment concerns everyone. Inadequately planned systems may cause great damage to both the people who come into contact them and the society in general, feeding, for instance, social inequality, the wage gap or populist propaganda masters,” said Head Organiser of the Winter School Heidi Maiberg.

The Winter School features presentations and panel discussions between experts from universities in Tartu, Uppsala, Ghent, Bordeaux, Gottingen and Gröningen as well as participating students. The course also includes groupwork where participants tackle real-life problems. Special attention is paid to the healthcare and educational systems, as these influence many people.

Registration for the Winter School course is open to Master’s and doctoral students from all fields.

The Winter School is organised as part of the Enlight cooperation network and include participants from all nine Enlight partner universities (Ghent University, the University of Göttingen, the University of Tartu, the University of the Basque County, the University of Bordeaux, National University Ireland Galway, the University of Groningen, Uppsala University and Comenius University Bratislava.
