The University of Tartu is an excellent partner in planning the events of the 2024 European Capital of Culture, bringing the works of world-renowned artist Ryoji Ikeda to Tartu under the leadership of the Capital of Culture, and organising several exhibitions combining art and nature.
The full programme of Tartu 2024 is announced on 19 October, exactly one hundred days before the beginning of the year of the European Capital of Culture. The University of Tartu supports the activities of the Capital of Culture and the programme includes various events organised by the university.
From 1 to 5 October 2024, Viljandi is organizing the Viljandi Heritage Festival which belongs to the Tartu 2024 program, taking place at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre and its surroundings.
A huge picture of a spotted Bengal cat landing on its paws can be seen on the end wall of the University of Tartu dormitory at Narva mnt 25 in Tartu. The mural was made based on the design by Tartu artist Kudrun Vung.
The University of Tartu Botanical Garden celebrates its 220th anniversary in June, when the garden is colourful and blooming. On 27 June, the celebrations continue with tree-planting and a concert by Lonitseera in the Botanical Garden’s alpine garden.
