From 26 to 27 October, the General Assembly of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities took place in Oslo. Toomas Asser, Rector of the University of Tartu, also participated and made a presentation about using chatbots in teaching and studies.
On 18 October, the new Ambassador of Ukraine Maksym Kononenko visited the University of Tartu and met with the rector to discuss cooperation between the University of Tartu and Ukrainian universities.
From 1 to 5 October 2024, Viljandi is organizing the Viljandi Heritage Festival which belongs to the Tartu 2024 program, taking place at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre and its surroundings.
The third ENLIGHT Teaching and Learning Conference took place at the University of Bordeaux from 11 to 13 October 2023. The focus of the conference was on empowering students.

Rector Toomas Asser, invited by the European Commission, took part in the European Week of Regions and Cities, the largest annual event on cohesion policy. On 10 October, Asser was one of the speakers in the high-level thematic session, "Retaining talent for regional growth".
The British journal Times Higher Education (THE) has published its 20th edition of the World University Rankings. This year's table, compiled based on a new methodology, ranks the University of Tartu in the 301–350 bracket.
