University of Tartu students can stay active and exercise at the university sports hall at a reduced price. A semester pass costing just €50 provides a wide range of opportunities for physical activity throughout the semester.
At the Rowing Championship of the European University Sports Association (EUSA Rowing 2026), held in Zagreb, Croatia, from 6 to 9 August, University of Tartu athletes represented the university with distinction, achieving excellent results in strong international competition.
Staff and students of the University of Tartu can take part in Tartu Maraton events with a 30% discount. This gives university members an affordable opportunity to represent the University of Tartu at sporting events together with colleagues and fellow students.
On 13 August, the Rector of the University of Tartu Toomas Asser and the CEO of MTÜ Tartu Maraton Indrek Kelk signed a cooperation agreement under which university staff and students can participate in Tartu Maraton events at discounted rates. For the first time in the history of the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, the club’s men's eight secured first place at the Estonian Rowing Championships at the Aidu water sports centre.
In recent years, the University of Tartu has set itself the goal of promoting wellbeing through physical activity and sport. Sports competitions, daily opportunities for physical activity, and traditional community events are organised for both students and staff.
The University of Tartu claimed overall victory at this year’s Student Summer Games, ahead of Tallinn University of Technology in intense competition. University of Tartu athletes won first place in 20 of the 46 events and activities, securing the overall title.
From 1 April to 31 May, the IT Office organised a step challenge “Breaking patterns”, inviting colleagues to be more active each day. The unit’s initiative aimed to bring more movement, healthy variety, and friendly competition into the working day.
In the TÜ Sörk series, organised by the University of Tartu Sports Board and the University of Tartu Academic Sports Club, 11 group runs took place since autumn 2025. The total of 417 participants included UT students and staff as well as other running enthusiasts.
The University of Tartu’s physical activity and wellbeing programme “Active University of Tartu” has reached the streets of Tartu – since spring, all 500 electric bicycles of Tartu’s bike share system carry an invitation to discover the joy of movement.
